Get the wood out from underneath that's where predators lurk . Most time folks build pens up off ground so rats , etc can't live / hide underneath . Luck

Mysterious disappearance, predator?
I'd bet it's a mink. Especially if you have a creek or river nearby. A mink or weasel will chew through the back of the neck to the spinal cord. We lost 22 layers to a mink over 10 days. One night it killed 9 and took 4 heads. A mink could easily take away those chicks.
Either way I'd set a trap in the barn ( live or dead) baited with sardines and kill whatever animal takes it. It's very hard to fix this sort of thing without killing the predator. My 2 cents...

If a skunk digs under anyone's coop or porch etc etc, take an old towel or shirts, soak them in water with bleach and throw it under where it is hiding, if it dug a hole pour the water/bleach mixture down the hole. The results are often instant, prepare for a frightened skunk to come running out. I have tried this a few times and it works.

Thanks for the tip. Dealing with this and rats ATM will try it. Nice part is the bleach dissipates easily with water so no harm to chickens later!!!!
