Which do you think is better, plastic or cardboard egg cartons for storing hatching eggs? I was wondering if the plastic would keep the moisture from evaporating from the shells? Or will it cause more problems. Would you change your opinion if the shells were dirty?

I've always used cardboard thinking that it would allow the eggs to breath. No data to back this up. Just my opinion.

iv used both cardboard and plastic egg trays. the only time im concerned about eggs evaporating is when I wont be setting them in the next 10 days. so I pack up a 18 pack and a 12 pack for a total of 30 (an egg flat) then put them in a freezer ziplock bag to await incubation.
