Well give her some eggs (if you want) and find out. Breaking a broody chicken can be done but some people might not like or agree with the practice. However it can be humanely done.

Well its been 2 weeks since we picked up the royal palm turkey poults, I think its time for an update! Lol They have been out in the big brooder for 5 days now and I swear they have grown 3X the size since we got them, they are doing excellent. The pattern is starting to show up nicely in there feathers.

31 quail eggs made it to lockdown. Fingers crossed they all make it. I saw a couple internally pipped. :xfingers:

I found 1 pipped quail last night. It seems to be zipping a bit right now but last I looked, it was the only one. Tommorow is the expected day of hatch. Its not a very good pic but ah well. Lol.

So this afternoon we had about 8 pipped quail, went to one of my daughters graduations and came home to 1 freshly hatched quail! And many more pipped n zipping! Our first quail in a very long time, I almost forgot how tiny they are!

:-o I found the legbar in the right nest (middle nest has eggs) twice :-o

I put her in the middle one. I was going to wait a few days before putting her into a dog crate in the coop but maybe I should put her in now so she doesn't get confused? We put 9 eggs under her.

I would just move the eggs and don't bother with the dog crate. I might put broody hens with chicks in a dog crate right after they hatch and only for a few days. The chicks can get out anyway and need there mom. I then take everything out but leave the feeder filled with chick starter so that the chicks can get to it, but the big chickens can't. Once they are too big to fit through the sides I flip the dog crate on its side so then can get through the bottom and continue feeding. I will continue to feed them chick grower this way until they can't fit through the big holes and transition to adult food.

It usually works out great but sometimes the moms will teach the chicks to eat rocks and layer instead of the chick starter and they will grow much slower than the others raised in a brooder without a choice of feed.
