How long to wait after separating breeding groups?

Post by FreeRanger » Fri Mar 18, 2016 10:03 pm

I was wondering if anyone can suggest how long I should wait before gathering eggs for incubation after separating my breeding groups. My flock has been in a couple groups with a number of roosters all winter. I have just separated them out with a rooster and hens together and want to make sure the eggs are fertilized by the 'right' rooster before incubating. I was thinking a week or so. Any thoughts?

I waited 3 weeks after setting up my breeding groups before collecting eggs fertilized by the chosen rooster. But I really dont know how long it takes for the new roosters sperm to completely replace the olds roosters.

I'd wait a minimum of 3 weeks with chosen rooster.
