Re: Day 5 candling - what to expect?
So, Day 10 didn't show any differences in #1 and #5 when I candled them. Cracked them both open and #1 looked not fertile, #5 had a tiny dark spot (see lower left in picture below) that could have been a start but looks more like a blood spot to me.
Day 11 this morning, so we're halfway there now (they were set in the evening).
The other four embryos are still alive and kicking. Day 11 this morning, so we're halfway there now (they were set in the evening).

When I candled two nights ago there wasn't much to see, but they all look okay (I think).
Day 18 - lock down - tomorrow .... getting close to nail-biting time, worrying about how many will make it out alive and well.

Well, it's Day 20 and when I checked on them this morning, #4 egg was well on it's way to hatching! It ditched the shell completely by 7:50, and is now resting, waking, cheeping for the others to join her. Tiny little thing. Not much bigger than a quail chick. Don't see any activity from the others yet, but then it is only Day 20. Unless I've mis-counted, which is entirely possible.

It is nerve-wracking. 12:00 PM and still only one little chick. Not even a pip on any of the other 3 eggs as far as I can tell.
Here's a picture of #4

Hi @Jaye saw your other post. It's not just you with humidity problems over this last week. I checked my broody turkey eggs and they have gone from 9/9 alive and kickig last week to 2/9 OK today. It really is the westher causeing problems. The dead ones all looked alike, sloshng with detached membranes. Glad I got them out today because that would have been smelly.
