Hatching small eggs

Post by Shnookie » Tue Aug 06, 2019 11:15 am

I have a Hovabator incubator. When I was incubating Serama eggs there was a problem. The eggs were too big for the quail egg trays, and too small for the regular egg trays. I used the larger egg trays, but most of the eggs "flopped" hard against the side when the turner moved. I wonder if this is what killed some of the chicks. Even if it wasn't, the jarring can't be very good for them. The eight eggs that hatched were smaller and sat fairly well in the hole in the cup.

What could I use to stabilize the eggs in the turner trays next time?

A bit of foam or cloth.

I have used foam "open weave" pattern shelf liner you can buy at Dollarama for that purpose. Just cut a small piece and stick it in the egg holes in the turner.
