Hm...hovabator to 3 hovas to 3 hovas and a sportsman.....in....oh...i dont know....2 years? And who runs the incubator (the 300 egg one) while they are away so they can return to fuzzies within the week they get back? Nope nope not me!!!!

This thread is exactly why I do not have an incubator. The unpredictability of the broodiness factor keep me so I don't OD.

Good for you with the kerosene thing. Kerosene can be hard to get now, but if you are near an airport, they probably have jet fuel, and that is pretty much chemically identical to kerosene. Probably need to take your own barrel/5gal pail w lid. I found that out in Alberta, old friend living off grid couldn't buy kerosene by the barrel from the fuel dealer any more. And way cheaper than by the gallon can in the hardware store.

BTW be very careful if you lend Jan a hatcher or incubator, she's has ways of getting back at you that are evil beyond belief LOL! No I don't need any Jan!

By the way, have you seen Bronze turkey babies? Look at their soft, fuzzy, musical cuteness! Wouldn't you like some? C'mon, just ONE won't hurt you!

It surprised me, how well the hatch went... I only lost two eggs I set, at day 5 candling, one dud (which doesn't really count) and one blood ring. No swollen feet or bad tendons or yolk sacs or weak poults. I may be a forced air convert! One of the last ones out had a VERY close call at hatching though...he had unzipped halfway and stopped, and when I looked at the egg, it was dead still. I took it out and pulled the top off, and he had shoved his head down to his legs and suffocated. I pulled him out and was sure he was dead. Gave him a poke and he moved a little, gave him a couple more pokes and he gasped. I had to leave, so put his limp body back in figuring the others walking all over him might encourage him a little, and that he'd either sink or swim. When I came back in an hour or so, I could NOT tell him from the other fresh hatches, all were on their feet. I wish I'd marked him!
And, I miscounted somehow. Not once, but multiple times. There are ten babies

I really can't take the credit for anything, except checking temperature obsessively, about 30 times a day and night. Not really a talent, though, more a mental illness

After promising that I wouldn't do another hatch this summer..at least until October
The hatching eggs should be shipped today
Incubator has been warming since yesterday

Sigh!
