Week 3 Expectations
Re: Week 3 Expectations
This waiting is awful. Also, there is one egg that looks like there is a leak near the bottom by the air sac. This is a new development.

What day are you in your hatch? What is the temperature and humidity levels in the incubator?
Cheers Karen

Re: Week 3 Expectations
You say at the bottom by the air sac? Are they laying on their sides because the air sac should be at the blunt end. That would be the upper end if you had used a turner.

Re: Week 3 Expectations
To answer both above:
At 12:30pm, it will be the beginning of Day 23, specifically, the 23rd, 24hr period.
At present, RH is 38%, Temp reads 101F (sitting where eggs are). Normally, I would syringe in 5mL water through a tube in a vent hole to a water trough under the screen (if you can picture that).
Eggs are on their sides, sitting on the non-slip screen that is on top of the wire screen.
Re: the "leak" - it is by the outer edge of where the air sac is, and near the bottom of where the egg sits (via gravity).
Please let me know if I'm doing anything wrong.

Re: Week 3 Expectations
Ok now I understand. I would up the humidity if it were me. I do wonder if there was a temp spike and the embryos died?

Will do, thanks. I wouldn't be surprised if they are all over cooked, at this point.Killerbunny wrote: ↑Thu Apr 26, 2018 1:22 pmOk now I understand. I would up the humidity if it were me. I do wonder if there was a temp spike and the embryos died?

Re: Week 3 Expectations
This has happened to me in the past and I suspect all of us. If it doesn't work out you can learn a lot from the unhatched chicks. Not a fun job but useful. If it was a temp spike you will likely see they all quit around the same time.
Can you very quickly sneak an egg out and candle it? It will be very obvious if it is still alive. If it is ready to hatch the beak will be in the airsac.

Well I have never had any luck with this type of incubator. Don't give up, just get a different incubator.
