@Kbr42 I am already planning for my next hatch
I’ve locked up my white rooster and spangled rooster and going to wait 3 weeks to make sure all their sperm are gone. Hopefully that’s long enough
I have a beautiful young rooster. Multi color. So I’d like to try him. BUT I have 32 hens for him to breed all by his lonesome. Soooooo I’m sure I’ll have many unfertilized eggs but that okay. I’ll set up 2 incubators again hoping for enough eggs to fill one after 1st week

Really would like to see what he throws
So 3 more weeks and I’ll be collecting eggs again!
@WLLady I will try next time putting some 2 x 4’s under it and see how that works!!🤪

Good for you! Nice looking Rooster. My suggestion would be to try a smaller number. I started with 10 going into the incubator 2 weren't fertilized and the other 8 hatched without issue. I did hatch my own (Olive Eggers and Silkies) and sold all but 1 of the Olive Eggers.
Have fun with your next one....enjoy the little ones.

Cheers,

@Kbr42
I started with 72 eggs!!! Knowing fertility would not be good. Had two incubators running until day 7 when I candled and pitched all the unfertilized ones. 42 were fertilized
So I can’t really start with only 10. I’d probably only get 1 or 2 good ones
Anyway my motto shall be “go big or go home”. LOL

I should mention. This young rooster is a cross with my banty Cochin hen and Ross’ Banty roosters
One part chancellor (hope that is spelled right) and one part spangled Hamburg
They made beautiful babies :jumpy:

Ok, @Colleen Kinzie , I've heard of go big or go home ....lol.... try for 18 eggs....even if you get 1/2 it's good to get a handle on the incubator behaves. Anyway, he's a lovely Rooster. I'm sure he's babies are lovely.

Good luck!

18 is a good number to incubate too!

@Kbr42 and @Killerbunny
He will be the only rooster to to 29 hens! :rooster-171:
Do you think I can get 9 chicks out of 18 eggs? Lol
With my luck I doubt it 🤪 although he thinks he’s the man now
Other than breeding for purebred birds how many hens can one rooster service and actually fertilize their eggs?
Just wondering

I would just check for the bullseye a few times. My Lucky used to manage around 10 hens with 100%. Remember one mating lasts a few weeks.
