Eggs not turned
Hi
Has anyone had any luck with eggs in the incubator that have not been turned regularly?
My Turner quit and I don’t know for how long
I took them out of Turner last night and candled one and it has progressed since 5 days ago so ........
Sunday will be day 14
Thanks

Re: Eggs not turned
I haven't had any experience with incubators or auto turners, but since they are 14 days into incubating and are progressing, I'd turn them manually, and hope for the best/give them a chance. Could you leave them in the turner trays and just rotate the trays from outside your incubator? Not sure what kind you have and whether that's possible?

Re: Eggs not turned
Are they chicken eggs? If so, they are pretty forgiving once they start blooping around in the egg at 7-10 days, especially if heat is even. If they're duck or turkey, you might see some stick to the side. Any that stick will die unhatched.

So if they stick to one side will the chick be heavier or fluffier on one side when it hatches
Thx

Re: Eggs not turned
No, lol they will not hatch at all. If the membrane gets stuck to the egg, it doesn't develop properly to nourish the chick. The chick will still be alive in the egg on day 21,22,23, or later, but WILL die in the egg. If you open an egg with a stuck chick, only part of the vascular membrane will be in contact with the shell. The rest will be holding an undersized, underdeveloped chick to the side of the shell.

I had a turner quit at d15. I just set the eggs to the hatcher and surprisingly they hatched just fine!!!

Re: Eggs not turned
I used to run two hovabators, one without a turner. i'd turn the eggs in one bator for 10 days then stop turning with transfer from bator a to b. I didn't notice a difference in hatch rate vs eggs that were turned for 18 days. and thats for chicken eggs
I read an article that chicken eggs not turned after day 7 have the same hatch rate as eggs turned to day 18.
