Has any one tried this type of thermostat? I see them every once in a while on kijiji or ebay. Running a wafer thermostat on my incubator and it works good, but curious for any future builds if these are any good.

yes I do. not the same model though. mine is in ºF and come preset for 99.9 out of the box. they have a memory and will retain the data for a given amount of time so theres no problems with power outages. after we moved and I plugged it back in after a few months it was bang on and I was like... COOL. many people use the stc1000 I believe its called. mine is mf something I believe, I'll have to double check but I used it on my hatcher build which is posted on here as well... I'll update after supper with the rest of the info.

MF1210F is the model name and because it comes preset for poultry, is what I recommend. heres my thread on my hatcher build. I also have my incubator build on here as well.

Awsome thanks. I've always used the coil/spring like heat elements(like in Sportsmen incubators), what exactly is the heat tape? Basically the same but coated?

I bought 2 of these temperature controllers last spring off the internet. Mine are model MH1210F. I have not used them yet because I was under the impression that I bought the wrong units for an incubator, plus just have not got around to doing anything.

heat tape is essentially in floor heating, for under tiles, concrete basements ect... its cheap as heck to run. the reptile industry adapted it for use in reptile rack systems, where there is say a 10 Rubbermaids in a line all containing an individual snake. the heat tape was used all along 1/3 of the Rubbermaid on one side of the entire rack and hooked up to a thermostate. then you stack these racks on top of each other to make a bank... oh I remember the first time I walked into a major breeding facility and saw this system for the first time. it was just incredible! (I used to breed reptiles)

I never did work with the heat tape until I made the hatcher though and it is incredibly efficient. when it turns on it heats up instantly, but not dangerously hot. connected to a thermostate its very safe, this should never be run on a rheostate...

Jim, those are good to go! I swear they were made for poultry. most people use the stc1000 in incubators for some reason but mainly in other applications such as brewing beer n what not. I was under the impression that I wanted the stc1000 until I came across the other that read in ºF which was really what I wanted. so I bought it. now they are different and do have different functions. for example the stc1000 has the ability to only turn on partial power instead of full power, just on/off. i forget what thats called but for my application in an incubator I only wanted it on or off. the stc1000 seems to be much cheaper and I dont get why but after many searching on ebay I found a good price on the mf1210f and bought 2. I also have about 13' of heat tape left over. :-) they are just driving me crazy saying... build me make another something or other. LOL. I dont need another incubator. I need more pens. HAHAHAHA

good night!

Looks like when I have time, probably not until summer I will look to build something with them then. I need more pens asap as well.
