STILL have NOT set up Incubator ~ but a good reason WHY!

Post by Poultryprincess » Sun Jun 05, 2016 5:22 pm

It's been a few weeks now, since I first thought about setting up my NEW Hovabator for the Second time!!!!

Finally was able to get a Blue SHOWGIRL rooster (Blackula ) thanx Frances!
BUT he was too young or inexperienced for LUV.
Trimmed vent feathers & re-introduced him to the hen & 2 pullets.
Everyone is happy now ~ but Millie stopped laying for a few days ( too much luvin' ?)
Going to wait for another week or two & set up the bator once I have some Millie eggs to hatch!

Seems like a LONGGGGG wait for the STRIPPERS to be of Breeding age!!!
Will be agonizing...at least 5 months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the meantime, my "used once" Hovabator is clean & ready to go ~ can NOT wait

It is hard to be patient where incubators are concerned ;)

Ha! Ha! And then you have to wait for them to hatch, and wait to see what they look like when they grow up. Ahhhh it never ends.
I have been hatching since November, cause the leghorns were laying then the polish , then the bantam ameraucana, and silkie, then the Cornish and now the standard ameraucana are laying, and well I may hatch that ones eggs just to see what I get. In a way it's good because I only want smaller hatches 20 at a time is more than enough, really prefer 10 at a time.
Good luck with your hatching, the only thing I don't like is having to sell some.

i can already see that in my last hatch i have very few welbar and rhodebars that look good enough to want to continue with-down colour and head spot wise (i think i have a bunch of half barred boys, need full barred, so 1 more generation). i need *NEED* another hatch of those.....but right now there's 50+ in the brooder....so....gotta move some of these guys (or at least get them sexed and figure out who to keep!). i'm thinking about just letting the cornish go broody...they're pretty good moms when they settle down to it....
i admire your will power poultryprincess!!!!

Silkie's are always long to mature always 5-6 Months and since Showgirls are a subset of silkie's that means the are also long to mature.

Silkies take forever!!! Then there is the feather pillow to navigate. The odds are against them. I let my one broody sit for 25 days and looked at the eggs and not one was fertilized. Despite the rooster.
Fuzzy butts need some manscaping and a good Brazilian wax. :)

Can I just say I love that their names are strippers. I would have the BEST time naming them. I can see it now. 'Hello, welcome to the foxes den, this is ..."

GREAT comment!!!!

Maximus ~ YES the Showgirls & Silkies had a Good "TRIM"
Didn't take as long as I thought. Watched a few Youtubes & was ready to go.

My "Female" STRIPPER is named "Gypsy Rose Lee"
The other STRIPPER could be a male ~ so NO name until I know.
( IF it's a male, "of course" it will be MIKE - LOL)
-------------------------------------------------------
WLLady - it's NOT will power.
Have no choice but to wait....I want to hatch some MILLIE eggs, cause she is my favorite.
NO looks but Lots of personality (*o*)
-------------------------------------------------------
kenya - I hate selling them too!!!!
I have noticed that ALL the Showgirls are keepers "for now"
I smile every time I look at them, I REALLY don't want to sell ANY!
I have a guy coming to help me build some extra pens.
DH is "Over it" & has enough to do.
I'm HAPPY to pay a guy who will NOT argue, just build what I want - ha ha ha

Ah. Show us pictures of your partridge silkies, I love seeing the different colours, and the silkies all look so different in the different colour combinations.
