Yes if you cracked a 4 day incubated egg at 4 days this is what it would look like.
Sandy chickens are 21 days. Lots of ducks are 28 or even 35...guineas are 24-28 if i remember correctly...
I cant feed these guys and hydrate them 4 times a day so doubt they will go much longer....but will try!

Oh that film IS in fact real (link above)....they published the methods they used. I have seen but not read through the paper yet and it was way more involved than what they show in the video...

I just don't see how they could get it much farther, without the membrane what do the veins attach to that normally attach to the membrane and surround the chick?

Those veins actually run through the layer you can see in my photo that is growing to surround the yolk. They dont actually run through the membrane. The membrane plus a layer of these trophoblast cell is a lot like a placenta with 2 layers-an outer layer and inner layer. The inner layer is where the vessels are.

Todays pics-ring is getting bigger and more blood and the layer of cells (white) has nearly surrounded the yolk. I cant keep the top wet enough...the cells normally migrate around the entire sphere. Not just the sides.

It's TRULY Fascinating!
I guess you are speaking English ~ All I am reading is Greek
( I don't know Greek either, so I will look @ the pictures - LOL )

* The membrane over the egg is getting dry you said.
Is the liquid evaporating as well as being absorbed by the egg?
Could a layer of "film" be put over a bigger layer of liquid?

The white (albumen) is drying out....we would normally put sterile saline or HBSS on top 4 or so times a day...the darker yolk colour gives it away that its drying out....
