My First Turkey Poults

Post by JimW » Tue May 24, 2016 8:39 pm

I had my first small batch of 7 turkey poults hatch today, I have 14 more eggs in the incubator, due to hatch at a couple different days, but I got the eggs mixed up so I have to candle tomorrow and see if any more are developed and due to hatch.

In my turkey pen at the time I collected the eggs were a Beltsville Small White Tom with several BSW hens and 2 Artisan Gold turkey hens. So far I have 6 yellow poults, though a couple are a bit darker than the others and 1 brown mottled poult. I have not seen Artisan Gold poults in person, but thought they were black and white? So maybe this poult is a BSW x Artisan Gold?

Not the greatest picture, but better than nothing.

Yes I am very curious to see what happens to the mottled one. I had 1 more similar poult start to hatch but did not make it. I have 12 more eggs due to hatch next week, plus my broody jennies are sitting on 20 plus eggs so I am hoping I will get a few more poults.
