Well Gawd you win the enabler of the year award! For those of you who don't know, Gawd sent me a PM about a Sportsman incubator for sale on PSO- I got the deal of a lifetime from Grand River Bantams and the incubator performed flawlessly. Thanks Gawd I would have missed it otherwise.
I just hatched out 63 chicks, all Buckeye crosses. 25 are Buckeye/dark Cornish, the rest are Buckeye, Buckeye x Red sex link cross or Buckeye x Production Red I got from True North Farms in Alberta. Had a fabulous hatch despite their long journey, out of 4 dozen eggs, 3 dozen made it to late incubation and of those 2 1/2 dozen made it. Nice, big, vigorous chicks, they will be good layers and on the meaty side from their Buckeye dad.
Total: 90 chicks more or less! :storkbaby: Hard to count.

Some 3 day old chicks from Performance: Cornish, buff rock and barred holland
chicks. Buckeye and Buckeye production cross chicks Buckeye and Cornish cross chicks.

RIGHT ON ROBBIE! I bet it feels great!!! I was more than happy to send you the info on that incubator especially after all the trouble you've had with the home built ones, there always a gamble. GREAT LOOKING CHICKS!!!

Just curious why your PP chicks have clumps of yard to peck at but there doesn't appear to be anything like that in the buckeye cross chick brooders?

You have come a long way baby! now aren't you glad you didn't give up couple years ago? :)

The Performance chicks were from Saturday, they are older. The other chicks were born yesterday, they are still learning what food and water is. In a couple of days they will have grass clumps and leaf piles too! It's funny though, the chicks from True North hatchery are so large (the eggs were in the 65-75 gram range) they are almost as big as the 5 day olds.

Thanks OC, yes I'm glad I persevered- but I seem to have a Buckeye Curse following me around! I'm just having the devil of a time building up a pure bred flock of good birds. I seem to have good luck with the mongrels though.

Oops, I didn't think about the age thing; makes sense not to throw in other stuff before they learn to eat and drink. For some reason I thought they were all around the same age.
