MARCH 31 - 50 silkie eggs put in BROWER TOP HATCH
(Hard to regulate temp ~ wobbled a few degrees lower than 99.5)
APRIL 5th - New Genisis HOVABATOR & Turner arrived.
(since Brower seemed stable, I did not transfer eggs as there were more than could fit )
APRIL 7 - Candled eggs & loaded 41 eggs in Hovabator
( Some of the eggs were from silkies who had started laying for the 1st time )
APRIL 14 - Candled eggs - 26 "looked good" & 4
Total of 30 eggs now in the Hovabator
APRIL 15 evening - "LOCKDOWN"
*** this is Totally MY fault! I had read that bantams "could" hatch 2 days early.
I figure Hatch "Could be" as early as April 19th
SO I reasoned that "Lockdown" should be around April 16.

APRIL 18 - STILL waiting for PiP
( I didn't even realize what I had done until I Posted on PTO.)
A member pointed out the eggs shouldn't be ready until the 21!!!
APRIL 21 - 1st PiP
( 2 eggs had a fleck of shell off but No other action )
APRIL 22 - 5 hatched & 3 PiPs
APRIL 23 - 17 hatched & 2 PiPs
( didn't see any other action so unplugged the bator .
Heard a peep 5 minutes later & saw a chick had Piped.
Plugged bator back in & had 2 more chicks hatched = 19
The nineteenth chick was quite contorted. The feet were curled like a Fiddle head fern.
The wings stuck straight out & the neck was bent sideways.
NO improvement after 5 hours & it cried nonstop ~ did the merciful thing.
APRIL 24 - another 2 chicks Pipped.
Came home from Mount Forest to find another chick hatched.
The remaining Pipped egg was still.
I peeled off a small section of shell & left it in bator.
5 hours later & still nothing.
Emptied bator so I can load with new eggs from MF.
RECAP -
LOCKDOWN after 16 days
30 ~ "Viable" eggs Loaded into incubator
20 ~ Hatched successfully (deformed chick culled )
TOTAL of 19 cute Silkies & Showgirls
FOOT NOTE
The BROWER TOP HATCH Temperature was difficult to Stabilize.
I had the Top Hatch sitting in a large cardboard box to reduce any Drafts.
BUT It is Great to use as a "DRY OFF" station.
Once the chicks had dried off in the Hovabator, I moved them to the Brower.
Beaks were dipped, & they fluffed up nicely.
Once they rested, drank & pecked at food, I moved them to the Brooder.
EXTRA FOOT NOTE
I was sent another "electrical panel" for the Brower Top Hatch.
"So Far" it seems to keep the heat constant.
I am going to load the Brower Top Hatch with 4 dozen eggs.
Once I candle them, I plan to load the Hovabator with these.
Hovabator holds 41 eggs, so I Hope for a Full Genisis
