Baron I know where one of those sweet machines are, a little repair shop in Watford. it was built right here in Ontario, i forget where or the name on it. but it was so simple and so cool!baronrenfrew wrote:QR_BBPOST In the 1970's my dad had a lawnmower with a wind up spring on the starter. You unfolded the arm on top, did 3 or 4 full rotations, folded it back in and pushed button. It unwound and ran the engine a few times till it caught. My dad (who never did maintenance on a machine in his life) burned the motor after 12 years of heavy use. I wish I had it, even as an example of "neat o" old tech. Talk about good ideas they should bring back.

I purchased a hand egg beater thingie (you know the type, two beaters, you turn the hand crank gear on the side) from an antiques shop for $7 bucks, probably from the 60's or 70's. I was astonished at how well machined it was. Only an egg beater. Shameful how things are made today- I really do think they want them to break.
