Soooo tempted!

Post by Skinny rooster » Fri Mar 02, 2018 9:13 am

One of my bantams is really trying to hatch, I wish it was a bit later in the season and I would let her. If I let her hatch now it would only be March 21, I don't want any power running in the barn. The barn is big enough to generate its own heat, it comes up from the ground and when the sun shines in. Hmmmm, early chicks would be awesome. So confused lol.

Well. If you let your banty hatch then she will do all the care....including keeping them warm.....we are going into spring (altho its hard to tell today!!) So its only going to get warmer....
Lol. I am with happy....if she wants to, why not.....lol
(Keep in mind that my sportsman is running with 280 something eggs in it....due to hatch in 2 weekends so you may not want to heed my advice!!)

Omg it must be contagious. Little hasn’t even started her egg production back up and she promptly claimed the 3 eggs I scooped out of a nesting box and sat down with just now.

I've got one as well, started getting broody a couple weeks ago. I finally caved and let her have some eggs on the 27th. She's a first timer, so I have no idea if she's a good mother, or a (luckily very rare) whackjob, but in general a mama knows what to do to keep her kids alive without any help from me.

Let her! Nice early chicks, she'll look after them.

Sorry I thought I answered this. I wasn't going to let her but after all the pressure you people MADE me do it, it's all your fault. I couldn't stop her and she was getting banged up and losing weight so I set her. It will be two weeks Tuesday so the chicks will be here near April, should be better weather by then. The older mother bantam scolded me for taking the eggs away today so maybe she wants to hatch soon as well, I never let her hatch last year because she wanted to in September, so too late for me. I call her the mother because half the hens are off her.

Also yesterday someone asked for hatching eggs, they just want to raise some chicks. I was happy to help, I have a plan to spread these little guys all over, lol.

Funny how time flies, this hen is finished raising the chicks and is laying again. She can't figure out why all these young chickens keep following her everywhere.

As long as with a broodie I have never worried about time of year hatching . I’ve had um hatch mid Dec ( not sure if that was early or late ) with no issues & mine run loose in barn & free range from barn when want to .
