Turkey Egg Incubation Tips

Okay I hatched a few turkey eggs last year with okay results. This year planning on hatching more of my own turkey eggs later this spring plus I have 2 dozen turkey eggs coming from BC next week.

So looking for any tips to increase my chances at getting a decent hatch rate this year, I know with the shipped eggs it's always a gamble but hopefully I will get lucky.

I will be incubating in a forced air java Bator.

Porters tips are great, my hatch rate improved when I followed these.

If never done anything different for turkeys and always had great success. I do as I would for chickens and dont decrease the temp at lockdown at all. Others do and say it has made a big improvement for them. I just never had a problem and so continue to do as I have.

I run a homebuilt 90 egg forced air incubator and home built 2 drawer forced air hatcher. Maybe there is a slightly lower temp in the hatcher, I really dont know.

Turkey poults are so comical, a lot funnier and interesting than chicks. They will bond with you as soon as they see you and follow your every move for the rest of there lifes. BSWT are the best turkey out there, incredibly friendly, reproduce naturally and make excellent table birds that will never outgrow the roasting pan!

Thanks people. I had okay results last year I only hatched 1 small batch of turkeys. I think I will try Porter Turkeys method and see how it goes.

I will be incubating some of my BSW turkey eggs later this spring, this first batch is chocolate and sweetgrass turkey eggs from BC.

I use porters 1c lower temp at hatching and it works great!!
