Cheesecloth in incubator ?

KB the cheap dollar store pee pad ones I have don't have the gel in them. It's a sandwich of very fine polyester, paper batting and heavier plastic on the bottom. The chicks were not able to peck through the polyester top layer (or they never bothered). I just found them more absorbent than the paper towels. They probably aren't the best for puppies though!
