Fertilty and hatch rate so far

Post by windwalkingwolf » Fri Apr 22, 2016 3:19 am

Fertility so far this year has been about 7-8 out of 10 across the board, hatch rate in still air incubator has been about 60 % chicken, 50% turkey and goose. Lots of blood rings/very early quitters, but it seems once they hit day 12 or so, they're homefree. Hatch rate for the turkeys is lower if I count the ones that have died within a few days of hatch...I've had two that absolutely refused to learn to eat. Now, I would normally say that 60% hatch rate for chickens is exceptionally good for a still air incubator, BUT, hatch #1 of 18 chicks is proving to be 15 boys, 3 girls. I'm not particularly happy with THAT rate at all LOL, but I guess I had it coming to me since last year was mostly pullets :/

Have you tried the laser pointer method for teaching to eat? I read about it on another board. I'm going to try that if I get a turkey hatch.
