Re: Somebody talk me out of this...
All 3 have hatched so she's a happy girl. I've been trying to leave them alone for the most part but this one keeps coming out to inspect me when it hears my voice . Like any OEGB chick I've ever known.

Good for you Happy, thats great.
The 8 Marans eggs I talked about. Today is day 22. The one peeping yesterday hatched over night. The other 7 not showing any sign. Will leave them another day and see, but darn I have to see a hen with only one chick, but if thats the way it is, so be it. I hope its a pullet.

And on the subject of single chicks. Mum turkey hatched one of the poults and promptly rejected it, the second was mostly out of the shell but dead and clearly there were heat and humidity issues. Contacted people for day olds to be friends with my solitary poult. A member/enabler from this site (you know who you are) came up with miracle, 5 lovely Salmon Faverolles day olds that hatched same day. Everyone instantly settled in together and baby turkey is happy again! Photo to follow.

Re: Somebody talk me out of this...
Well I have sad news. I found one of the chicks dead under the hen. Possibly smothered. The hen is a standard size but very light weight so I wasn't too concerned with her having Bantam chicks. But she does have very full feathered feet so maybe the little one couldn't get out from under them. Hoping for the best with her other two. I've moved them to a bigger area and took her nesting box away so she's on a flatter surface.

Sorry to hear @Happy . Sounds like one of those freak accidents where there was nothing that could have been done to prevent it. :-(

Sorry to hear but I've had that happen many times with a hen don't know why but If the hen is a little clumsy and doesn't understand that she's killing them. I have one silkie now with 12 chicks and no problems but another with 6 kept squashing them.
