Pebbles refuses to stop being a mom! Her babies are as big as her. I've lost track but they're over 3 months old. Her boy is the biggest baby I've ever seen. Momma's boy is an understatement. He cries if he isn't beside her at sleep time. The little reddish girl is the tiniest of all the chicks but she is a BRUTE! She beats up all of the boys.
First video is the first time they saw yogurt. Didn't take long.

This little fella has a very strange tail. He holds it very low-always has. He eats great, poops fine, very active and spars with the others-not lowest in the pecking order. I hope it fixes itself. Of course he's my fav because he's different and he comes in sometimes for special treats. This was the first time I saw him crow.

I've been pretty lucky with these little ones. The wee guy in the video above got adopted to be a boyfriend to a very spoiled little house chicken that was rescued with several frost-biten toes. I have no doubt he will lead a spoiled life.
Another boy was adopted to join a single lonely little girl living just a few kms from me.
Last weekend I transported another young pair to someone that I have chatted with on-line for a couple years. She has wanted a pair of these guys for a while and we had an opportunity to meet in Bobcageon. They will be well cared for and live in Peterborough.
This leaves 3 more cockerels to go. I have girls to go with them if necessary. But one girl is very attached to me. And one girl has become her mom's best friend. It so cute to watch them together. Mom was lowest in the pecking order before and didn't really have a friend. So how do I take her away? We will see what happens. The boys will go eventually and until then they have a home here.

The last of my cockerels left this evening. Two brothers went together. It's a good thing they got lots of "action" the past few weeks because they will be living bachelor life for a while.
Peace has been returned to my coop. Its eerie. I had definitely forgotten what it was SUPPOSED to sound like. All are content and relaxed again.
So next spring if I say "Somebody talk me out of this" please remind me of this statement!

I hear you. My "little" faverolles cockerel had found out he's a boy and has the hots for Tweeps the turkey hen. She isn't too impressed!
