Breeding plans for 2019
Re: Breeding plans for 2019
Wire sounds like a good idea. That way it shouldn’t stop the airflow or anything...I had a couple of plastic containers I was thinking of trying to put some of the eggs into. Then hopefully the chicks from my eggs look different enough from the ameraucanas...of course, my roosters are Easter egger, so...

Ok so let the guessing begin! I know I have 5 BCM, 1 barred rock, 1 speckled Sussex, lavender Orpington and Ameraucana. Out of 19, I had 15 hatch. I'd say, pretty good hatch.
@Ontario Chick I did egg cartons in one incubator and none in the other. I had BCM on their sides. So, 4 eggs in totally didn't hatch, 2 in each incubator. And 1 in each incubator had a shrink wrapped chick......both of which are happy healthy and running around, I might add. So, the egg carton was certainly less stressful for me. I'm not sure about the chicks.

Awesome! That sounds like a good hatch rate to me.

Re: Breeding plans for 2019
I love this game
Are all the breeds of hens separate with their respective roosters? Kenya is right about the light one, it's got adorable little(big!) cheek poofs, so not an Orpington, or at least not entirely :) Pure speckled sussex should have a partridge (chipmunk) down pattern, and I only see one of those, bottom right. SS are mottled plus mahogany I think. BUT, the one penguin-looking guy directly under/in front of mom has down that indicates at least one mottled gene on a black base, so that guy is likely at least 1/2 Speckled Sussex, unless you have other mottled breeds that you haven't told us about If there's no chance he can be mixed, then he's a one-off (spontaneous mutation).
Unfortunately, the rest of the black and blue guys are anybody's guess without better pictures, or a couple more weeks of age on them. We need to see faces, and feet Also, I think you have a black(?) rooster with lavender hens? If so, the babies will carry a copy of lavender but will not actually BE lavender. Both lavender and blue are diluters of black, each in different ways. Lavender dilutes black evenly all over to blue, and also dilutes red. Blue chicks have lacing, specks, or underfluff that's obviously lighter or darker than feather colour.
I don't see anybody at first glance (but can't really see that well at all) that has a head spot, so nobody is barred...though it looks like the guy under the mottled and beside the chipmunk *might* have a light head dot?

@windwalkingwolf , this game is going to way more fun than you first thought. I purchased these eggs, so I don't have a clue what the ' parent's ' look like.
I do have 1 barred rock. Momma is now going after me if I do try and pick up anyone, so I will try and get some individual shots in the next couple of days. I have 2 Ancona and they are very nice. 1 SS for sure. All the eggs are pure to their breeds. I have a bunch of black, 5 are BCM, the others have clean feet, but no muffs. I'll be posting.
