I find the PAINT colored silkies intriguing,
BUT I notice that many people jump OUT of Paint as quickly as they got into it.
This makes me "assume" there is difficulty trying to breed this color.
I have heard about Breeding back to black, don't breed to white blah blah blah
Does anyone have experience with PAINT & the problems with the color

I bought some SPLASH, but have not tried to breed them yet.
I would like to have some PAINT, if they are not complicated to breed.

WHO has some pointers for a PAINT newbie

I've got a group of bantams I've been breeding by the seat of my pants, that have or carry every colour and and pattern known to man, and I can offer some very limited anecdotal insight, since genetics isn't my personal strong area.
If you have both splash and paint, don't mix them. Don't breed them together, ever, unless you want to spend the next ten years doing test breedings to sort them out.
Splash are comparitively easy, paints are relatively bloody difficult, and if you mix them up, you'll likely never get true paints again lol

I heard SPLASH / Blue is easy. I have NOT tried it yet but have the birds ready for spring.

The PAINT is awesome in it's own right.
Heard it should be crossed with Black to keep the definition of color.
I do NOT want to bother with PAINT if it's hard to keep the color going!!!!!

Just seems alot of folks drop the Paint & I wondered WHY

I really haven't had any trouble but I breed back to black to improve spots, basically make the black spots larger. I think with any new colour there is the fad quality. Everyone wants it when it first comes out then they gradually fade away perhaps after the new fad.

The majority of problems come when people choose for personality, beauty, colour, and type in that order. Hardiness/health is usually dead last.
People sell their uglies and extras without considering how that will affect their prospects of finding good new local blood later on. True of any breed variety.
I worked with red paint for a bit, but only had one foundation bird and couldn't find ANY outside blood and so eventually called it quits when it became apparent it would take decades to breed black leakage out lol. Black paints are much better off- they're easier to find, in Silkies. Any other breed, and you're screwed if you don't have 20 years to spend on it lol

I like the looks of PAINT silkies, but that may have to go on the back burner.

Think I will focus on my Blue & Splash silkies.
I also have my white stripper & showgirls

Poultry princess What sex did those silkies turn out to be? Which one laid the egg? I couldn't find the post.
