Diligently follow the path of two swords as one. Percieve that which the eye cannot see. Seek the truth in all things. Do not engage in useless activity.

Unless I can get a VERY good male next spring, I will let them age out.
Don't tell DH, he doesn't want to give them up. ;)

You have no idea how tempted I am right now to breed some big black LF wyandottes. I've had such successes in the past couple years with getting the colours and patterns and types I want, that my ego may be getting out of hand. I don't like rosecombs, because I think they look messy in the best of circumstances, and if they get mixed with my EEs or my cushion combed project birds, I could have a nightmare on my hands trying to figure out who came from where. But man, it might just be fun to try1

You have a good think on it Jan, I will not be continuing with the Black, if I think there may be a good trio in there when they are 4 month old, I will be championing their cause :)

I've been thinking on it for two months! I'm going back and forth on it. Large fowl black Wyandottes need a champion (or ten), I'm not sure I'm the right person for the task. I have daily arguments with myself about the matter. Obsessive? Who, me?

The final tally on the 12 I kept, 4 cockerels and 8 pullets.
I think the dozen I sold ended up the same ratio, so 16 pullets and 8 cockerels, hurray for Millpond hatchery, never had that ratio in my hatches.
In retrospect (where I seem to spend most of my life) I shouldn't have left the Splash hens in the breeding pen and just stuck with the Blues, would have given me a clearer picture of what happens when... :)
