What would life be without occasionally doing the not-recommended thing right?
Since I know the breeding of these birds for 4 generations back and when I entered the parentage of these birds in to Kipenjungle more or less correct, got a result of based on 64 chicks hatched pretty much two of everything, sooo...
Parents partial Blue Columbian male over Blue and Splash hens
Mactavish & ladies.jpg
and the progeny based on 24 chicks
4 Black
B 2 4 Black.jpg
7 Blue more or less
B 2 7 Blue.jpg
B 2 6 Light.jpg
whole bunch of Light something and 2 Columbian
B 2 2 Colummbian.jpg
12 chicks sold, I kept 12 and will try to make a guessing game out of that, when I figure out what the question is???

hey

so what this means to me someone in your flock (and not the boy) is E/eb. that's the only way to get a solid black.
if i run all the eb/eb and E/eb through the calculator i get 33% splash (light); 25% blue; 8% black; 25% blue columbian and 8% black columbian. so lets for arguments sake combine the columbians, for 33%...

your percentages were 17% black, 30% blue, 8% columbian and 46% splash (light). i think some of your blues will be blue columbian restricted from your photos...
if fewer of your girls carry E/eb, then the percentages change....so my bet is you have at least 1 girl is E/eb....probably a blue.....

and i could be totally wrong.

It's a bits skewed by the fact I sent 36 eggs and only got 24 chicks back so who knows what the rest would be.
Would the Blue Wyandotte hens not contribute black as well as the male who is out of "black" Columbian?
a little close up...

Here they are at 4 weeks at this point grouped under a joint name of "the Peculiars"
can't wait to get to them separately to see how the colours are developing, at this point they are pretty camera shy, will have to do some further training ;)

I can't tell you what the genetics are, or what they are likely to be or pass on. All I can tell you is, YOU GOT BLACKS.
IF they are pure Wyandotte, you may have the only standard black wyandottes in all of Ontario right now. That's a holy poop moment!
Congratulations!!!
They will probably carry the gene for Columbian, I think: (knowing little about chicken genetics, but I know my black Orps and giants when bred with a columbian pattern will make black offspring that give the Co gene to THEIR offspring) so, if the type of the blacks is good, you can theoretically use them to breed any darn colour of Wyandottes you want. I think your trip to the hatchery may have won you the lottery :D

Yup definitely Wyandottes, and " as black as possible under the circumstances "
(Peter Gzowski reference)
But genetically not assembled correctly.
Wish I had another 25 years to play ;)

Interesting how these things work out, if it wasn't that the eggs were going to the hatchery, I wouldn't have made that cross, as it was a pure flight of fancy.
I suspect there will be red leakage on males , and one of the chicks has a decidedly pink hue, great adventure really. :)

And an update on my "peculiars"...
starting to understand why some prefer crosses, there is something to having a surprise every time you walk in to the barn :)
