Hello everyone,

Seeking some advice / help with pricing - i have to sell off all of my birds for various reasons...
I've been breeding in isolation for about 7-8 years - some good genetics
Welsummers 18 hens 4 roosters
started with 3 lines
performance Poultry
Preservation Genetique
and out of the states
later added some smuggled in from Holland
breeding for egg colour, standards, temperament, and lay rate...
some hens go broody and hatch out their own
good foragers

Also BBS Ameracaunas - just through harsh cull
down to 2b and 2b + blue rooster - calm and does the job well
great lay rate, colour and size

12 leghorns white - first generation of production cross with heritage rooster
calm and as expected egg laying machines

what the hell are these birds worth?
im clueless as ive been out the the game in this dept for years

Cheers
and thanks for any input

for young ready to lay pullets with good genetics and not show quality you should be able to get about 15-20$ each. for show quality you should get substantially more.

Market sets the price, much will depend on your area and if you are going to take them to a large sale.
From past experience selling a large flock isn't easy and braking them in to smaller breeding groups, each with one rooster may make marketing them a bit easier.

Aye, show birds are worth $25 each or more (any show results?) and any young hen worth $15. How bad/quickly do you want to sell? What person is in the market to buy? In spring birds are worth more than in autumn (few want to pay for birds for winter). Kijiji is a real pain to sell as lots of "tire kickers" and folks will chew you down in price and then not show up.

If really good then they are worth more but finding a buyer willing to pay is not easy. Good luck.

Best idea is to sell in smaller lots, people will pay more for just a few than a whole bunch. Hens 15.00 - 20.00 depending on age. Roosters sell for less unless someone is looking for a rooster. Hard to say but most people do not breed their own and only want a few for egg laying and as pets. Kijiji works great, be fair have lots of pictures and they will be sold before you know it. This site is great for selling as well, put some up and see how you do.

Interesting note: for selling on Kijiji everything I had for sale a reflection that my price was fair and my product very good.

For stuff: tires, furniture, books: its a pain

Here is my two cents.
How close are they when you have the SOP in your hand?
How much have you improved your line from when you started in relationship to the Standard?
If you have shown the birds at an APA show. Where did they place? Were you the only person showing this breed?

These should set the price. My base price is $40.00 and it goes up from there.
If no one wants them then they go into my freezer. I will never sell a bird at a cheaper rate or give away to first time buyers.
It often bleeds down to others buyers thinking they can get a cheaper price. That is what hatcheries are for and non standard bred backyard breeders.

A couple of older reputation breeders in my area have a set price of $35 for pullets or cockerels. Any breed
