Your opinion wanted: white eggs.
Your opinion wanted: white eggs.
I think I'm the only person left on this continent who wants white eggs....... but I thought I'd ask. Is there anybody else? I don't understand why the rainbow egg lovers wouldn't want to add white eggs to the basket. What's not to love? I can see that a carton of all-white eggs would look "store bought"
(just leave some on 'em hee heee ) but wouldn't they look great in a mix of brown and white, or rainbow with white?
So I'm asking everyone......... why don't you like white eggs?

I totally agree. I like white eggs, especially when they are contrasted against different coloured eggs. White eggs highlight the other colours nicely.

We always add white eggs to our dozens. I believe white eggs look amazing if you sort them so they sit beside dark chocolate brown Marans eggs in a carton. Sets both colours off beautifully. Our white Leghorns and Exchequers are great birds. Their feed conversion to egg size ratio is one of the best, in my opinion.

Totally agree on my white layers being best converters of feed. I always mix colours-including white. I like how the white makes the other colours seem deeper. Lol

I like to add white to my mixed colour eggs as well.
Which reminds me I need to get some white egg layers again. I got rid of my Brabanters and only have 1 Houdan hen.
Are leghorns my best bet?

Yay!!! I'm not alone!!
Jim all the research I've done says you can't beat the production leghorns for egg size and quantity. I guess it depends on what you are looking for in a chicken!

Exchequers are a nice alternative if you can't see yourself keeping plain white leghorns.JimW wrote:Are leghorns my best bet?

Ya I like the look of the Exchequers. Looks like I will have to look into leghorns and other white egg breeds, only need 2 or 3 hens, no plans to breed. Eventually when I have my mottled houdan numbers build up they will be my main white egg layers.PAJenn wrote:Exchequers are a nice alternative if you can't see yourself keeping plain-old white leghorns.JimW wrote:Are leghorns my best bet?
