Muuust hatch eggs.

Post by Skinny rooster » Sun May 15, 2016 9:55 am

Share in my addiction, yesterday I happened to be at an auction and hatching eggs were going dirt cheap, someone who has nice birds was selling so I did the "carpe diem" thing and got three dozen. Barred Rocks, Jersey Giants and Wyandotts. I would have gotten more but no room in the incubator.

Congrats, Skinny roster. Hope you have a good hatch.
May I ask what the usual going rate is for Jersey Giant hatching eggs?

I can really relate to this problem. If one of us was really smart we would develope a 12 step program for hatch-o-holics. It could be sold the the families and friends of poultry keepers :)

So the evidence may be gone but I know I out on the internet (PSO or here) that I was not going to incubate this year. All the work for the broodies. Well I had to check viability for some hatching eggs I was selling so may as well incubate them to hatch. May as well put some chicken eggs in in case broody girls aren't fertile. So that plan went well. Now next year.........

I don't see what the problem is? Sounds like a bargain to me and a good deal!

Jaye, usually hatching eggs go for at least $20 per dozen on the low end of the scale, some people are asking as much as $75 for rare or high quality birds. I only buy from people that I know have decent birds and are trustworthy. I bought all 3 dozen for less than $15 total! Now my HUGE regret was a dozen of white Americanas went for $3 and I still have room in the incubator, darn it! Lol.

Skinny Rooster, seriously, $15 for 3 dozen hatching eggs? That's an exceptional deal. And white Ameraucanas for $3!?!? That's insane. I can understand that you are kicking yourself about that one.
I really wish I could have made it to the sale yesterday. But hey, I did save money and grief from hubby by staying away.

I would wait until they hatch, before deciding what kind of deal that was ;)
