I had trouble with my buff Cochin Rooster last year, I shaved his bum and that seemed to work lol. This year he was sick for a while but looked fully recovered. However I noticed he wasn't mounting. 24 eggs with ZERO chicks, tried another 12 this week = zero!
So I know that my white Cochin is young but already proven fertile. I decided to use him, put him in and the next day the little hens got so excited that all four quit laying and went into hatching mode... d'oh!!!

Hmmmm........ that's a drag....... hopefully they will snap out of it and you'll get some fertile eggs. I have a cornish I'm trying to break from being broody, every 3 weeks we go through this all over again!

Do you have any extra wire cages?
I find that is about the best way to stop my girls from being broody.
I put them outside ( in the shade, not a windy day )
It usually breaks them the 1st day.
Silklie takes about 2 ~ Good Luck!

Yah, that whole, "put the rooster in and hens stop laying" is starting to wear a bit thin here, wrote in calendar date to check fertility 2 weeks after putting the rooster in, a fine theory if there were any eggs to check a fertility of.

In another pen one hen went promptly broody, didn't bother waiting to get pollinated and lay an egg first. :)

Well Lucky seems to be getting the job finished with the girls BUT almost no fertility. The weather is playing havoc with egg laying too!

Ha! Ha! Yeah put the rooster and BAM no eggs. I guess their not too sure he'll be a good dad and are waiting to see first before they put out for him! You know saddled with babies and a dead beat dad.
