The Brabanters are great birds, I might just have to get a few again this year from FRF, as my Houdan project for white eggs is not developing very quickly. This coming spring I am hoping for a nice mix of egg colours.... Marans (dark brown), Bielfelder, Delawares, Brahmas and Barred Rocks (various shades of light-med brown), Houdan (white), Cream Legbars (blue), Ameracaunas (blue-green) and Marans x Ameracaunas (olive).

I am thinking I need a few leghorn hens to up my white egg count.

I had to look up brabanters as I never heard of them before. They look like their mother has been around lol. Like a mix of many breeds. I have to go read up on them.

Leghorns are MACHINES. I had a small flock of 11, and if I remember correctly, all of them were laying daily by week 18. I was averaging 9 or 10 eggs a day through their first winter, too.

What kind of leghorns were they? They sound like very good layers indeed.

They were just leghorns from Freys. Not sure of any specifics about them.

OK thanks Lynners I've always been pleased with Frey's laying breeds myself but I've never tried their leghorns.

Hm I hadn't thought about putting a few brown eggs in a carton with mostly white ones. That would be nice.

I've read leghorns are skittish. Is that your experience Lynners? I didn't know Freys had leghorns. Interesting.
