LOL. now if you weren't TOTALLY confused you will be!
personally i think paint has something to do with mottle/pied. and self blue (lavenders) don't conform to the bbs breeding scheme. thankfully. LOL and if anyone asks poultry_admin (a non-poultry guy) about blue, lavender, self blue etc he will probably say "oh, the grey chicken?" LOL

Not that I particulary wish to correct anything Kathy says, but we all know she meant Blue to Blue to get starter SplashWLLady wrote:QR_BBPOST but if you want splash you will need to either get splash to begin with or breed blue to black to get the starting splash and then go from there (and prepare yourself for a long haul of culling and selecting and hatching and breeding and selecting and culling etc).

Well.... you mentioned it , someone explain the self blue, I want to know about that colour, I never really looked into it before.
I should probably mention as well that the splash colour in my Cochins and silkies was really for my benefit, when it came to actual sales, surprisingly it was always the blues everyone wanted, much more than the splash birds.

HAHAHA Yes its a great article Ross. It goes over BBS very well, its funny at the begining of the article it says something like... the following info may confuse the crap out of you. there is a glossery of terms at the bottom. take a deep breath, read the info again and then again... LOL too much thinking for me though. The FF is ALWAYS a great read. I always get really excited when I see it in the mailbox. I highly recommend everyone to subscribe.

self blue, or lavender is its own gene locus and gives you a true breeding lavender bird. cross it all you want with another blue and the line stays blue.

Now don't panic people, here's a simple step for all PTO users when it comes to genetics of breeding poultry. First take any info you have on breeding, toss it in a drawer and then post to WLLady because that's what I always do! Hahaha. My bad but I can tell you love it so yes I'm shamelessly using your knowledge!!!
