More is better. LOL.
hatching that is. more hatching = more girls. theoretically. unless you are at my farm. then hatch 5 get 2 girls, hatch 20 get 2 girls...so i should just set 2 each time right!?
I'm very curious to see them feather out. see how vastly out to lunch i am.

They're lovely chicks but there's that really confusing very "chunky" one, bigger than the others.

Nobody as curious as me, at first I was really wishing the dark one was a male, turns out I didn't have to worry, they all seem to be :)WLLady wrote:QR_BBPOST More is better. LOL.

By the time I was getting them out to the barn there were two more "chunkies " they seem to have wider body so I may be on to some supper race, although if they are all males, it will be difficult to continue with that lineKillerbunny wrote:QR_BBPOST They're lovely chicks but there's that really confusing very "chunky" one, bigger than the others.

Three weeks later it's starting to look pretty interesting, there are definitely going to be all the colours Kathy suggested, large proportion of Columbian, some Blue Columbian and the jury is still out on the dark one. :)
10 days old 3 weeks old the dark chick at 3 weeks It won't let me post anymore pictures, still have the possible Blue Columbians look very pretty

I see your point. I have not had much luck getting girls with any of my hatches.WLLady wrote:QR_BBPOST More is better. Growing like weeds at this point it looks like there is going to be two of everything, possibly even couple of actual Columbians.
The dark one looks more like Silver laced then a Columbian which makes sense in as much as that was the original Wyandotte colour.
He/she is supper active, very outgoing, but a bit too small still hoping it's a he, 7 weeks old.. Here is him and her.....not everyone is that obvious yet, so I have another week in which to dream I have a dozen pullets Never had this complete lack of grass, they spend lots of time roosting on the "play structure" probably afraid to step down in to the desert of their run.

What color are we going to be?
Some color is coming in fairly clearly now, looks like I will have enough Columbian Wyandottes in this (F3) batch to have another go at breeding next spring....
4 or 5 very promising Blue Columbians
and as a bonus variety... 4 or 5 very promising Blue Columbians
