BLUE WYANDOTTES, choosing the flock sire...
So here we are 6 month later, the breeding pens have been put together and voila,
The Blue is definitely a better type, and long way from the original sire.... The F3 Columbian type has a long way to go, still way too leggy, BUT he has got to be the most lovable rooster ever, takes his girls around, and all I need to do is call Chickeeens!!! and he comes running, (much better recall then my dog) and he can count because the moment one hen is out of his sight he starts looking....... which makes me somewhat blind to his faults

BLUE WYANDOTTES, choosing the flock sire...
And here we are 2 month later and my pride and joy Hamish the Blue Wyandotte, my future flock sire and the apple of my eye, completely crapped out and out of 11 eggs set, 10 were infertile, so I have one blue pullet out of him.
He lost his flock to Mactavish, and is back in solitary confinement, complaining every time I walk by him.
He has 6 month to re-think his affections the one on the right is his daughter

Perhaps you should be very clear about his prospects if no fertility? Talk to him about cull time?

So far every time I go by he either whines, or is giving me a little dance and song, and I keep saying : "shut up! I am not talking to you"!!!!! , but I guess that's still talking ?
Wish he didn't look so good, also wish I didn't spoil him last winter

I'd still give him one hen, maybe he was overwhelmed, even if fertility is way down I think I would try and hatch every egg from that pair.Keep them pened so he has nothing else to distract him. He is such a lovely boy, use a broodie if you don't want to incubate.

He had only 4 hens with him, and he chased them away from feeder couple of times and after that they wouldn't have anything to do with him.
I think I will give him his own small flock in the fall to live with thru the winter and see what happens in the spring time.
He really has the best type I have produced so far, but if he can't pass it on, not much use :)
