Here's a picture of my showgirl cockeral, I was hoping for a hen, but he is very handsome. Look at the poof on him at 4 months old and he has tons of pin feathers.

He's in the foreground, both are cockerals, the back one is nice too, not as nice though.

Are they crowing? Is that how you know they are Both cockerels?
I have a white silkie that looks more & more like a cockerel every day.
He has a large poof like your guy in the foreground has.
Super handsome, but I just don't have the space or hens to keep him.
I will sell him once I've heard him crow.

Set up the bator last nite, loaded 10 Blue Showgirl eggs.

Today my Chicken GURU came for a visit ~ hadn't seen him in a few years.
I never mentioned the bator load to him or hubby. ( I'm a smart chick - LOL )
GURU mentioned that one of the biggest things he had to learn,
is when to STOP hatching eggs.

I was caught off guard at the statement, but coyly asked why?
When he had all his coops filled, had mates for all the birds & winter was closing in, he learned he Had to stop.

WHAT THE HECK, is there a BATOR ANGEL trying to tell me something?????

I removed all the eggs tonite & put the bator away...I'm going to stop while I am ahead.
"IF" I had a barn with a lot of space, I think I would have hatched the eggs.
Farmers Almanac is calling for a cold, snowy winter ~ that's stressing me out already.
( carrying out 20 litres of water twice a day to the coop is Not much fun.)

I'm going to concentrate on getting a few more hens for my existing roos.
By spring I can hatch all the chicks I want.

THANX ANYWAY for all the input!!!

They both have streamers and waddles and yes they are crowing. You don't see the streamers on the one because of the angle of the picture but they are there.
Yes stoping hatching is hard ,especially when it seems later in the year you hatch more pullets.

With friends like these, who needs enemies right? It's late in the season, by the time they are a month old it will almost be November, you will have a lot of extra chores trying to raise them safely through the winter, and you just know that out of seven eggs, you will probably get nineteen roosters and have to deal with that. Lol, hope this "really" helps. Get a fresh onion from your garden and fry them up! Hahaha.
