Help chosing a wyandotte rooster

Post by Robbie » Wed Mar 30, 2016 4:52 pm

Hmmmm I would weigh them and then wait two months to see how #2 compares to #1's weight now. I guess that doesn't help much if you want to breed them right now- you could always set up 2 breeding pens and do a test breeding but you'll have to wait a long time to see how those F1 chicks do, anyway.

I absolutely agree, I would wait 2 month, Wyandottes tend to be late bloomers anyway so fertility will be better in May, and another 2 month will give you much better idea how they are maturing.
Also time to get a scale. ;)

Here's Lucky (Hamish' Grandpa?) am I right OC. He's 2 1/2 now and produces nice meat birds over my mutt hens.

Well, look at that boy, yes indeed Hamishe's grandpa.
Interestingly, Lucky two didn't have as good a type as either father "Lucky" or son "Hamish"
I would have been happy to keep Lucky, but needed to move from sibling breeding, so glad you were able to take him Gill, hate to get rid of superior male.
Just curious how he changed, found his picture at 10 month, I would say there is more depth to his chest now, then he had at 10 month
