How come black Wyandott bantams are very common but it's rare to see standard black Wyandotts? I actually wasn't even sure they existed until I just saw your chick pics.

Because lots of people are getting on the "cute little chicken" bandwagon, mostly because they cost less to feed than standards I think.

You can have twice as many , same space/feed , as stds . Chicken math . I just eat 2 eggs instead of 1 & 2 birds instead of one . Luck yuk it's raining into the ground blind for opening day we go .

Yes easier to keep bantams that's true, lol that is partly why I like them. However even the most popular standard breeds have a bantam version and it doesn't seem to affect their numbers. I wonder if it's simple a case of not thinking about black if someone was getting into Wyandotts, maybe the silver laced, whites etc get more attention. It's just that I have never been to a sale or show or flipping through a poultry book and saw black standard Wyandott chickens.

I think pure black in most breeds isn't as popular, but bantam's are still cute all black.
