This is a breed that has always been in the back of my mind.
My Grandma always talked about the New Hampshires...often about the meat.
I would love to learn more about this breed.
Yes, another Red Bird........But the Buckeye will always be #1 on my farm.
But, I am sure I can add another coop when I find an excellent Trio....or more.

Just wondering why this breed was created? I read it came from RIRs, so what is the difference between NHs and RIRs? Or is there any difference?

I think a well bred New Hampshire is more of a meat bird than an egg layer, their backs are even shorter than a Buckeye.

No thegawd, you didn't understand my question, I raised show RIRs so I already know what everyone looks like. I am wondering what prompted the new breed. Maybe you guys didn't know but New Hampshires were bred from pure RIRs with nothing else added in. So genetically they are almost the same breed. I wonder what advantages one has over the other?
P.S. your birds are gorgeous!!!!

Looks like 30 yrs of selected breeding.....creates a great duel purpose utility bird. My Grandma loved this chicken.
I love the black tips on the hens neck feathers.
They known for their vigour and fast feathering!
I adore this breed...........if only they had a pea comb!
