Hatchery quality Barred Rock gender
I purchased sexed chicks (females) from Frey's. They are Barred Rocks which are not guaranteed for sexing. Of the 6 there is one that has stood out from the beginning as being friendly and brave and quirky. She is always the closest one to me. My chick experience tells me there's a chance that's a cockerel! They are only 2 1/2 weeks old so too soon to be definitive but I am not seeing boy in this chicks colouring. Anybody else?

I can't tell. But compared to the other chicks, is the comb any wider or a bit further back on the head? That helps my guessing on sex, and I am approaching 50% accuracy when I use this method.

the comb says female, the manly feet say male, so one of those ........undecided ?

From what I understand the males should have wider white bands in their barring. But I'm not sure if that's in their chick feathers or just their adult ones...
To be honest if wee Edith turns out to be a cockerel I will find a way to keep "her" because I'm already in love...

my experience with PBRs has been that when both genders are together at about 3-4 weeks the males will be a lighter appearing shade of gray...very noticeable...this is all before the combs and wattles start to really show of course...my 2 cents
