I’ve been reading a little about Icelandic chickens, and how they’re a landrace breed with no specific standard. They can come in different colours, have different combs, etc.
So my question is, how do you know if you have an Icelandic?

Re: Icelandic chickens
yes, and if you buy birds from someone, how do you know they are "true" and not a mix of a bunch of other breeds? unless you can do a genetic test for that, you have to trust the people you buy from, or you get shafted

Exactly. They look like an interesting breed, and I have a hen who looks just like a photo I saw of one. I assume she’s a mixed breed, but how would you know? I doubt I’ll be doing any genetic testing...baronrenfrew wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 9:04 amyes, and if you buy birds from someone, how do you know they are "true" and not a mix of a bunch of other breeds? unless you can do a genetic test for that, you have to trust the people you buy from, or you get shafted
