Old English Game Bantams

Post by Happy » Tue Jul 31, 2018 5:54 pm

Wondering if anybody can confirm colours of these guys. Or if I’m just making up colours that don’t exist which is quite possible!

#1- Grace
I’ve been calling her Blue/Red

#2- Honey
I have no clue what to call her other than partridge but that’s not even a colour in OEGB. Her feathers are pencilled and her head is mahogany.

#3- Stewart
His hackles glow they are so orange. His markings are like Black breasted red (which is what I’d call his brother) but his colour is much different.

I have researched oegb colours and confirmed that pullet #1 is a blue/red...pullet #2 is a Black breasted red and the cockerel is Wheaton.

They are all lovely. How would you describe their temperaments?

They are a little flightier than my larger chickens but not to the extent of leghorns that I've seen elsewhere. The girls bicker amongst themselves and are always sparring but I think that will stop once they start laying. The two boys so far get along. They fought more as 6 week olds. It's quite something to see the girls fly as a flock across the backyard.

Boy, no shortcuts here, ask a question and then have to answer it yourself. ;)
The cockerels colours are stunning.

Some updated pictures from today. I was off today and on winter prep duty. I had some little helpers.

I know nothing about english game bantams; not what their shape is supposed to be, what their colours are, how big they're supposed to be, nothing. But I do know that your batch is pretty darned cute! You can practically see the "big chicken" attitude in their eyes. I particularly love the speckled one, I'd add her to my motley bantam crew in a heartbeat :-) I also adore the gratuitous Cochin pic...she looks (as all Cochins do,) braced for an onslaught of high winds or feisty OEGBs roflmbo

That spangled one is the most independent chicken I've ever seen. And yes they are big brahmas in small packages. Terriers of the chicken world.
That Cochin is actually a Cochin/rock cross. The only rock she has is a more streamlined body and that tail carriage lol. She was the clumsy chick with the leg problems from this spring. She fully believes she's a tiny bantam and she sleeps in the rafters with these guys.
