A quick update since that last post:
My avatar rooster, Humphrey, (yes we named him), is now in the freezer (where he was meant to be in the first place). He is, however, immortalized in an eBook that I composed. So I should change my avatar at some point, but gosh darn, he was our first rooster and a really good one. He was just too big for the little hens.
And I may not decide to get barred rocks next. I'm going to try incubating and hatching eggs to see how it goes. We have a new rooster - Barred Rock Burt (with feathery, part Cochin, feet).

Thanks Tom, but we have a new rooster, given to us this past summer as a "thanks" for housing a pig for a week or two. It's a barred rock/cochin cross, and a better size for all our hens. You could put your extra roosters in the freezer, you know!
Plus, I'm going to put a few eggs into an incubator at the beginning of April.... will see how that goes.
Oh, and... Frey's also sells barred rocks.

You could bypass the freezer and go straight to a coq au vin, you know!
