Now up to 12 hatched and two that are working on it! I am so happy and appreciate your efforts Flat Rock Farm the chicks are so curious and this is the second time that I have hatched them alongside my FBCM and they even make them friendlier! I will post some pics when the last ones are out and fluffy!

Well I am so glad you tried the second hatch
I have noticed that if I do a hatch with some of my other breeds which are more flighty like the Brabanters, if raised with the EO chicks they are not as timid.
Yes look forward to some :camera: :D

Well, of course! Don't you want to know what she's like as a mother?Flat Rock Farm wrote:QR_BBPOST I have been breed EO's coming into my 7th year now. First time EVER I have had one go broody!!!!!

You can always have a Plan B at the ready for the eggs (or chicks), just in case things go pear-shaped, right?

So out of curiosity--everything I have read, these are a friendly bird. Is this because you are handling them often or just born that way? I am hoping for a hatch of 8 this coming Thanksgiving Sunday! Squee!
I don't overly handle the birds anymore--between work and housework, I feel lucky to even get the chance to visit them on some days.

I love the look of the roosters--in pictures, they look like they are crimped!Flat Rock Farm wrote:QR_BBPOST Hi Skinny rooster, yes the hens are a honey/gold and the roosters are a Red Cuckoo. Amazing friendly, curious breed. LOVE them!!

Hi Satellite! Euskal Oiloas it's in their natural nature to be friendly, you can take that up a notch by handling them more if you want a total lap chicken, LOL
Good luck with the hatch this weekend, you will notice that the EO chicks will be curious right away and usually run to your hand when feeding/changing the water. Most other breeds run to the corners.

OK Flat Rock Farm, the "couple" I posted earlier in this thread are now parents! I just found Lucy on a nest under a bunch of junk with 9 live chicks and 1 dead one and 4 eggs (one with a pip)! I moved her and the eggs and chicks into a cage, I will take pics later in the day! I up being over run by chickens!
