Basque Hen/ Euskal Oiloa
As promised, the hen is only just 26 weeks old and now has 13 chicks! She was the only hen running loose in the yard with 3 roosters one of which was an Euskal Oiloa from the same hatch date and the other two were a Black copper Maran and a New Hampshire (?) they certainly look Euskal Oiloa chicks to me! There were 14 eggs total, one dud and one little chick that had hatched but was flat as a pancake...thing he made it to the bottom of the pile under mom and never came up again. I thought this hen had been killed but then about 10 days ago I saw her run across the yard but couldn't find the nest..I only found the nest the other day because the cat was stalking it with all the chirping!

OMG Jocelyn that is AMAZING!! One the she even went broody at that age and in the 7 years I have been breeding EO's I have only ever had one go broody!!!
They sure look like pure EO chicks to me right now, but time will tell. Please keep the pictures coming

Here are the two hatched out 10 days ago....is it too early to tell? They look distinctly different to me. These are the same pics I posted in 21 days and no chicks

From the chick down (wheaten) dad was either EO or new hampshire...if dad had been black copper marans the chicks would be black with white on them. Both EOs and NHs are wheaten based so you may need to wait till theyre older and fully feathered to see who is carrying mahogany to see which dad it was (or both dads....)

@ Satellite, are they pure EO? If so they look to be both pullets. You should be able to see the barring if it was to be a male, like this:

They are pure EO. Hmm. I don't feel like I have good enough luck to have 2 pullets! I am leaning toward thd bottom pictured one being similar to the one in your picture FRF! Time will certainly tell!
Thank you for your thoughts. I am hoping you are right....
