I got some new birds at a sale a few weeks ago. The last 2 pics is the brown one I bought alone. She lays a medium size olive egg every 2nd day.
Then I also got a set of 3 younger hens, 2 pictured in first pic, the brown one and lighter speckled one. Not yet laying.
Any ideas on breeds?

White with black on neck is white sussex. The "beard" and olive egg is an ameraucana cross therefore an "olive egger" or "easter egger". Top pic background calico bird an easter egger and the front red bird likely as well. The red bird with black tail shows heritage of Rhode Island or Buckeye or New Hampshire (all related) but the shape and carriage and comb says easter egger (and i'd say a cockeral but could be wrong on that).

Lol we're really dry here too! That pasture hasn't been grazed the past 6 wks so actually does look green yet.

Thanks baronrenfrew. Yes I had light sussex hens already. As for the red being a roo.....they're not crowing at all yet.

The two in the top pic are easter egger boys, looks like Ameraucana (or ee) x marans and ameraucana (or ee) x red sex link. Both boys should pass on the blue egg gene.
The girl in the bottom two pics is a silkie mix and technically an easter egger. Since her eggs are olive, and she's a fair size, I'd guess silkie x ee x welsummer.

Interesting that you think they are boys! Guess time will tell. The box was labelled as 3 hens. I also bought a box of 4 smaller birds that day and 2 are definitely boys and I've heard one of them crow a few times now. They are upstairs in the barn. Since you've said you think these are boys, I've paid close attention to where the crowing is coming from and it's definitely upstairs not outside with these first birds. Here's a pic of the chicks upstairs...definitely smaller but already crowing. And I"ve heard no crowing from the bigger outdoor birds.

My guess is boys too - pointy hackle feathers, rooster-like tail and the beginnings of saddle feathers, plus chunky legs.
I think both are nice looking birds, and I especially like the colouring on the calico bird.
No idea what mix either of them are though.

Two boys, top pic

Wow! Well that would be disappointing to find they are boys! You may be right. They do have longer arching tail feathers and the red one has especially chunky legs. The 3rd one that came with them (not pictured) has shorter tail feathers. When should I expect to have them start crowing? And what about the little roos in the pen upstairs? Are they minis since they are already crowing?
