OC, not sure if I did it correctly but I sent you a thank you for the info, much appreciated. If I can find it, I'm going to try and put up a picture from 1914 of a prize winning Columbian Wyandott rooster, an actual picture not an artist's rendering, I think people will be surprised.

You are welcome. :)
Sounds great, I still remember Syble posting pictures of good quality LF birds compared to hatchery birds, and I think we were all surprised.
Unfortunately I am aware of all the things that aren't right with my birds, but it's great fun to try for the good stuff, and to have something to remind us what the good stuff looks like certainly helps.
Now I suspect a bird from 1914 may differ quite a bit from what we now imagine is the "perfect" type.

Ok hope this works. I have a bunch of old vet books that have been in the family for years. This picture comes from a book by a veterinarian Dr. Chas. J. Korinek in Oregon, it's copyrighted by him 1915.

Great, Thanks for posting.
As I suspected, not the type we would expect now, many of the shortcomings I see on my birds, the breast too shallow, the back a bit too long, which makes me think probably too narrow in the body, I think you might be right, probably an early prototype of mine ; )

Yes surprising, not as meaty as the Wyandotts of today and not as square in the body as the Wyandotts of today. I was hoping to ease the pressure a bit as well, of course a drawing from days of old can "look" perfect but here is an example of what people actually had. If you are seeing faults in your birds then you don't have "barn blindness" and that's a good thing lol. You should have seen the disaster my four golden laced Wyandotts turned out to be. Honestly the only thing I could see as "Wyandott" about them was their combs, yup that's it, so I made sure they were taken out of the gene pool.

This picture is few years old, not my stock and unfortunately I don't remember where it came from, but a good picture for comparison of the "old type"
and the more "modern type" I would be quite happy if I produced a bird like that :)

They are sweet girls. Maybe OC will have some hatching eggs come spring?
