Yep I choose Australorps as they are steady layers because they don't go broodie.
I have one girl that has layed 6 eggs in the last 3 days. I usually only see 2 eggs in one day when a day gets skipped.

Rhode Island Red! HAHA! ya I didnt have a red go broody on me until this year. iv had 3 go broody out of about 10 hens.
the Australorp is one of Lizzies fav breeds and one that we were considering breeding. but then I finally got my hands on the reds. but every time we see them at a show/sale we get thinking again...

Defnitely, if you want reliable egg production, choose a breed that doesn't go broody. You can always have a second breed or two if you want broody hens. Unwanted broodies are a nuisance!!! GGrrrrr.

I have barred rocks and Easter Eggers.
My rocks do a great job, dont care about snow or rain. My Easter Eggers lay every single day and are also exceptionally weather resistant and thei combs allow them an easier winter. Rocks lay 5-ish a week each. I don't feed soy which, in my research and opinion, doesn't induce/encourage laying. Soy mimics some hormones and I believe that it can increase laying in hens. Despite the lack of soy my EE's never miss a day. And the shell quality you get from an EE is impressive as well.
