Re: Are you POSITIVE you can't sex SILKIE CHICKS????
Well usually the ones with the bigger vaults are girls so I'd say the first two are girls then boy, girl, boy, boy, girl, boy.

pardon my ignorance, @kenya , but can you explain vaults? I'm not sure what to be looking for.

That big topnot, on silkies the scull isn't closed and part of the brain protrudes.

Ok, I'm going to guess the partridge and the white are cockerals. Just cause of the longer nose. The paint looks pullet like but hard to tell with the pictures.

Another newbie question: Is the "riding in a convertible, top down, with hair extensions (AKA streamers)" top knot look an absolute indication that a Silkie is a male? They are 14 weeks old. But I'm not seeing any large walnut comb or wattles. Too soon for that?

Pictures will help :) that's a funny age. They could be streamers, or just their heads feathering in.Jaye wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 7:04 pmAnother newbie question: Is the "riding in a convertible, top down, with hair extensions (AKA streamers)" top knot look an absolute indication that a Silkie is a male? She has that top down riding in a convertible look, but she is just feathering.
Notice her stance, slightly forward, not upright, it's also a clue to sexing silkies. This is a pullet.

@Kbr42 , You're right - pics help I will get some recent pics after work. I am heartened by the pic you posted of your pullet. For awhile there I was starting to think I only have one pullet, but maybe not ... will check out the stances of the two I'm on the fence about.

Ok of these 4 chicks only one ended up being a pullet. These are not my breeding I bought them to keep a lone chick company.

Is the hen in the last pic the same as the chick in the second pic, mostly grown up? She's so pretty!
How old was the chick in the second pic at the time the photo was taken?
