I guess I am too old school , I only use the term Standard Bred when talking reds or any other breed I raise . The term Heritage drives me crazy , it seems to be a selling tool for a lot of the internet egg and chick peddlers .

My point exactly. Its misuse and over use takes away from the true meaning for those that qualify as heritage. I respect your take Al. Good on ya!! It's like saying organic with its not certified organic. Grrrr!

I'll have to try and get to the Sarnia show next year. Keep us posted on the chicks progress and development.

How broody are they?

Yeah, i've had "non-industrials" (that's going to get some taking used to) for several years (6 i think?) and never had one go broody. ever....not even thinking about going broody. they just pile the eggs and keep on piling and then off to root around and forage LOL
so i don't let them pile anymore...take them away.

So Al, and others, what do you think....? I dont like how fine his feathering is...but i think the colour is getting there. Some of my hens are a bit light yet but i think 2 of these are doing ok....Al, the eggs i gave you are from him and the 2 darkest girls.

They are beauties!! Their feathers look slick. I just love that look. Glistening with health!
